There are still two ribbon cables connecting the mother board to the case, so be sure not to pull the lower case all the way off. Use a plastic opening tool to pry the shoulder button ribbon cables off their sockets on the motherboard. Remove the lower case from the device. Remove the two 7.7 mm Phillips screws securing the back of the Circle Pad to the motherboard. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the back of the Circle Pad off the motherboard. Lift the Circle Pad joystick off the motherboard and lay it on its back so that the ribbon cable connector is accessible. Use the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail to flip up the retaining flap on the Circle Pad ribbon cable ZIF socket. Be sure you are prying up on the hinged retaining flap, not the socket itself. Lift the Circle Pad joystick off the motherboard. To decrease the chance of losing it during repairs, you may want to remove the two thin pads underneath the Circle Pad joystick. Use a spudger or screwdriver to lift the pads up and remove them from the device. Remove the two 4.5 mm Phillips screws securing the SD board to the motherboard. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the SD board ribbon cable connector off its socket on the motherboard. Insert the flat end of a spudger between the SD board and the motherboard. At the same time use the pry tool to lift up the glass from the top. You need to be very gentle and careful in prying up the glass screen to avoid the scratching of the glass screen or damaging the LCD.After the removal of the glass screen you can now lift up on the locking mechanism that is holding the ribbon cable down (this is the same cable that was exposed when you slid out the LCD and its location is shown in the above figure). This ribbon cable will be adhered to the LCD assembly and therefore after the cable is separated you will also have to pry it up before you can slide out the LCD.Now you will require the pry tool in order to remove the logic board and the battery from the casing. It is to be noted here that the battery is adhered to the iPod casing and you will have to pry it up before you can slide it out.After the battery is loosened you can gently slide the logic board and the battery down until a cable connector is exposed at the bottom at the location indicated in the above figure. You will have to stop here and remove this cable in order to avoid the snapping of the cable. Just lift up the locking mechanism and remove the cable from its connection. After making sure that the cables are not adhered to the dock connector, go ahead with pushing the battery and the logic board out of the bottom of the unit. But be very gentle and careful because the small cables hanging behind can be snapped. The iPod Nano battery is attached to the logic board.Once the battery and the logic board unit is removed, take the safe open pry tool or a flat tool to pry down the click-wheel module from the inside of the case. Adding a little bit of push from the top of the click-wheel will make it easy to collapse it into the inside casing.
